Gate areas take a beating. Every time someone walks through, the grass right there gets compressed, the soil shifts, and over time you end up with a sunken, muddy rut that just gets worse with every pass. It's one of those spots most people don't think about until it's already a problem.
The fix isn't just throwing down sod and hoping for the best. That's what leads to the same issue coming back in a year or two. What actually works is building the base correctly from the start - and that's where geo grid comes in.
We install geo grid underneath the turf in spots like this. It's a structural layer that distributes weight, keeps the soil from compacting and shifting, and holds everything level even when foot traffic is constant. The grass on top stays supported, so it doesn't sink or wear down the way it would without it. It's one of those details you won't see once the turf is down, but you'll absolutely notice the difference over time.
This kind of thinking goes into everything we do with our plant installation and landscape design work. The visible stuff matters, but so does what's underneath. A lawn that looks great and holds up long-term starts with decisions made before anything gets planted.
If you've got a spot on your property that keeps wearing down no matter what you try - whether it's a gate entry, a path, or anywhere else that gets heavy use - the issue is almost always in how it was built, not just what's growing there.
