A bare backyard perimeter is one of those things that bugs homeowners way more than they expect. The grass looks fine, the patio is great - but that empty strip along the fence feels unfinished. That's exactly what we were working with here.
We designed a full plant bed along the back and side fence lines, then got to work on the install. The mix of trees was intentional - columnar evergreens, blue spruce, and ornamental trees with contrasting foliage give this bed year-round structure. It's not just about what it looks like right now. It's about what it's going to look like in three years, five years, ten years.
The boulders are doing a lot of heavy lifting here. They break up the bed visually, add natural texture, and anchor everything so the space doesn't feel like it's just a row of plants along a fence. Paired with the black mulch, the whole bed pops. That contrast between the dark ground cover and the lighter stone is one of those design details that makes a yard feel intentional rather than thrown together.
The curved concrete edging ties it all together. A clean, sweeping border between the bed and the lawn keeps everything defined and makes future maintenance a lot simpler. No more grass creeping into the plant bed. That's a small thing that makes a big difference over time.
This is the kind of work our landscape design and plant installation services are built around - helping homeowners take a space that feels incomplete and give it real structure and character. The plants will fill in, the trees will grow, and this yard is going to look even better with every season that passes.
